Rhys & Hayley's gorgeous day at Howsham hall


As a Yorkshire wedding photographer, I have the privilege of visiting some of the region’s most breathtaking venues but few compare to the sheer elegance of Howsham Hall. Nestled in the rolling North Yorkshire countryside, this 12th-century country mansion is the definition of luxury. From its sweeping bridal suite (one of the largest in Europe) to its manicured grounds and historic architecture, every corner is a photographer’s dream.


Earlier this summer, I had the joy of capturing Rhys & Hayley’s wedding day at Howsham Hall and it was nothing short of magical. From emotional first looks to the black-tie elegance of their portraits, their celebration was the perfect example of timeless, cinematic wedding photography in Yorkshire.

The Morning: Bridal Prep in Europe’s Largest Bridal Suite


Hayley’s wedding morning set the tone for the day- relaxed, full of laughter, and surrounded by love. The bridal suite at Howsham Hall is unlike any I’ve ever seen. Stretching almost the full length of the house, it combines historic grandeur with light-filled windows and elegant styling.


The morning was spent capturing delicate details: the dress from Goldie’s Bridal, the veil, jewellery, stationery, and the little personal touches that tell the story of the day. Hayley was joined by her bridesmaids, her mum, and later her little boy. The vibe for calm and the morning flew by in the most wonderful way.


One of my favourite parts of the morning was photographing Hayley and her bridesmaids on the bed, champagne in hand, dancing and laughing. The flash photography created chic, editorial-style images that looked incredible in black and white . Effortlessly stylish yet true to the joy of the moment.

Emotional first looks


As a candid wedding photographer I still like to ensure the day includes some prompted moments like first looks and Hayley’s were nothing short of emotional.


First with her bridesmaids, who trusted me wholeheartedly to guide them in to position as not to peak at their best friend (I really must find as easier way to do this!). The emotions were high and it look a lot to stop the tears streaming down and makeup smudging.

Then with her dad, who couldn’t hide his emotion seeing his daughter ready to walk down the aisle.


These are the timeless images that transport you back not just to how everything looked, but how it felt.

A Rain-Cleared Ceremony in the Grand Hall


Howsham Hall’s ceremony space is as breathtaking as the rest of the venue. With its pillared architecture, tall windows, and luxurious décor, it feels like stepping into a period drama.


The ceremony was scheduled for 2pm a timing I’ve come to love. It gave the morning space to breathe without rushing and set a calm rhythm for the rest of the day.


Although the morning began with rain, the skies cleared at the perfect moment. Just as Hayley and Rhys exchanged vows the change in weather allowed for Hayley's much wanted hope of a drinks reception out on the front lawn. The toastmaster was ready to announce the celebrations would have to stay inside. But just as the ceremony finished, the rain stopped, and we were able to capture a stunning outdoor confetti photo with Howsham Hall’s iconic façade as the backdrop.

Rhys and Hayley’s couples portraits are some of my favourites to date. Rhys looked sharp in his black-tie tuxedo, the perfect complement to Hayley’s elegant gown. Together, against the backdrop of Howsham Hall’s white stone and grand architecture, the images are the definition of chic, timeless wedding photography.


The white roses from All In Bloom Floristry tied everything together creating a classic, elegant aesthetic that will never date. Every frame feels cinematic, filled with romance and sophistication.

styling, florals & the reception


The styling by Twinkle Events Company brought a refined, modern edge to the grandeur of the venue. The hall and reception spaces were dressed in layers of white florals and greenery, blending seamlessly with the venue’s architecture.


During the reception, guests enjoyed live music by Andrew from 24 Live Acoustic, a talented musician who provided everything from romantic aisle songs to upbeat evening sets that kept the dancefloor alive.


Every detail was flawless from the florals to the music and yet what stood out most was how much love and joy surrounded Rhys & Hayley throughout the day.

evening celebrations


As the sun set over the North Yorkshire countryside, Howsham Hall came alive with laughter, music, and celebration. The evening was a perfect reflection of Rhys & Hayley as a couple: stylish, full of energy, and deeply connected to their family and friends.


Hayley changed in to a second dress giving the day a total change of atmosphere ready for the party to begin. The couple were joined by their wedding party at the front of the building for the most epic champaign spray photos giving their gallery and wedding party photos a fun twist.
