You’ve probably already chosen your first dance song—the one that means something deeply personal to you both. Maybe it’s slow and romantic. Maybe it’s the one that gets you both grinning every time it plays. Either way, it’s a moment you’ll hold close for the rest of your life.

But what about the other songs that shape the feel of your night?

Music isn’t just filler in the background—it sets the tone, fuels the atmosphere, and creates some of the most unforgettable memories. So while you’re crafting that perfect playlist, here are four key songs to think about—the ones that really make the evening magic.

1. A Father-Daughter (or Special Someone) Dance

Just like walking down the aisle, this is a moment that holds so much meaning—whether it’s with your dad, grandad, mum, or someone else special in your life. It’s a quiet pause in the middle of the celebration, full of love, gratitude, and nostalgia.

For me, it was dancing with my grandad to an Eva Cassidy song—one that instantly brought back memories of car rides with him and my nana. I’ll never forget how much it meant to both of us. Choose something that tells your story. It doesn’t have to be traditional—just true to you.

2. The Song Right After Your First Dance

You want the dance floor full—and this is the moment that kicks it all off. The song that comes straight after your first dance sets the tone for the night. It should be joyful, familiar, and totally irresistible.

At my own wedding, we played Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, and within seconds, the floor was packed. It turned the romance of the first dance into full-blown celebration—and that energy never left.

3. The Dance Floor Banger

There’s always that one song. The one that gets everyone—your nan, your uni mates, even your cousin who swore he wouldn’t dance—up and singing like it’s the best night of their lives (because it probably is).

Think about what that song could be for your crowd. Is it a throwback anthem? A 2000s classic? A full-volume guilty pleasure? Whatever it is, it’s going to live in your memory as the moment the party peaked.

4. The Last Song of the Night

It’s easy to forget this one, but it’s huge. This is how your wedding ends. Arms wrapped around each other, guests swaying, voices hoarse, hearts full. It’s the song that ties it all together.

Ours was Champagne Supernova by Oasis. And now, every time I hear it, I’m right back in that moment—just-married, slightly tipsy, surrounded by our favourite people. That’s the kind of memory music can create.

Your wedding soundtrack becomes a part of your story. These songs won’t just be “played” on the day—they’ll be felt. They’ll be the background to the champagne toasts, the hugs, the dance floor chaos, and the quiet, meaningful glances.

And years from now, when one of them comes on at random, you’ll find yourself smiling. Because for a few seconds, it’ll be like you’re right there again.
